법왕청신문 이존영 기자 | 김영록 전라남도지사는 6일 태고총림 순천 선암사에 마련된 고 태고종 종정 지허당 지용 대종사 분향소를 찾아 조문하고 깊은 애도를 표했다. 이어 “큰 스승이신 한국불교 태고종 지허당 지용 대종사님께서 사바세계를 뒤로 하고 적멸(寂滅)의 길로 떠나셨다”며 “대종사님께서 남기신 발자취와 가르침을 등불 삼아 온 도민이 편안한 전남을 만들기 위해 혼신의 힘을 다하겠다”고 다짐했다. 지허당 지용 대종사는 선암사 주지를 맡아 총림의 위상을 세웠다. 선암사의 차밭을 가꾸고 법제를 재현해 전통 차문화 복원에 힘썼고, 순천 금둔사를 복원, 중창 불사에 매진하는 등 호남불교 중흥에 앞장섰다. 대종사가 출가한 선암사는 지난 2018년 6월 세계유산(산사, 한국의 산지 승원)에 등재됐다. 우리나라를 대표하는 오래된 건축물과 승려가 수행하는 공간으로 1천500여년 세월을 자연과 함께 보존된 전남 대표 사찰 중 하나다.
법왕청신문 이존영 기자 | 경상남도교육청은 10월 6일~10월 20일 제2청사 갤러리에서 성각스님의 ‘아이좋아 미소좋아 선(禪), 서(書) 그리고 화(畵)를 만나다’ 전시회를 연다. ‘아이좋아 미소좋아’는 스님이 집착과 집념, 탐욕을 걷어내고 자연에서 발견한 깨달음을 담은 작품 29점을 선보인다. 이는 스님의 삶이자 수행이며, 수행의 여정과 예술과의 고귀한 만남이 꽃피운 결과물이다. 이번 전시에서는 특별히 아이들의 환한 미소를 만나볼 수 있다. 아이들의 미소는 언어를 뛰어넘는 감정을 드러내며 이들의 미소를 보고 있자면 세상만사 모든 고뇌와 번뇌는 잊어버리게 된다. 남해군 망운사 주지인 성각스님은 국내 유일의 선화(禪畵) 부문 무형문화재로 40년이 넘는 시간 동안 불교 수행의 대중화와 전통 문화예술의 아름다움을 꽃피우고 있다. 박종훈 교육감은 “이번 전시는 선(禪), 서(書), 화(畵)의 가치를 일깨우고 성각스님의 작품을 많은 분께 소개하기 위해 기획됐다”라며 “간결한 선으로 세상의 울림을 전해온 스님의 미학과 우리 모두의 가슴속에 숨어있는 아름다운 미소를 찾는 시간이 되길 바란다”라고 밝혔다.
